Famous gamblers - How Gambling played an important role in making gamblers famous?

We all know about famous inventors, artists, scientists etc. but only few of us know about the famous gamblers that have existed from time to time. The world of gambling has given birth to a number of great and famous gamblers since dark ages till modern times and all such famous gamblers were either famous due to different reasons. Some of these famous gamblers include:

F. Dostoevsky

Dostoevsky was known to be one of the greatest novelists that have ever existed in Russian history; however some people believe that the main reason for the motivation of his writing was Gambling. Actually gambling didn’t motivate him to write, he actually wrote to clear off his gambling debts. Dostoevsky was obsessed with gambling after the death of his wife and his beloved brother; he played casino games most frequently where he lost his entire fortune and was in a great debt.

In order to pay off his gambling debts he write two of the novels which became a great success! These were:

• Crime and Punishment.
• The Gambler.

Both of these novels were known to be the most acclaimed ones, however the last past of Crime and Punishment was written by Dostoevsky in just few days, just because he was forced to do that, as he needs to receive some amount from his publisher in advance to clear off his gambling debts.

J. Montagu

J. Montagu is known to be the inventor of the most famous meal of Sandwich, and guess what? Gambling was the reason behind it. If it was not gambling then Montagu would never be able to invent Sandwich. Rumors has it that John was way much obsessed with the card games, and in order to extend his sessions, he would skip his meals so that he can enjoy playing cards more, however this famous gambler needs to have an extra snack in order to keep him on the table and for that he ordered the servants to bring the meat slices in between a bread, so that he may have it on his table without giving a halt to his game, hence this “Sandwich” was invented on a card table, and this meal was named by his gambling friends / partners.

These are two of the famous gamblers who have brought changes in the world due to their gambling, and indirectly gambling was the source of these famous gamblers motivation which helped them to achieve their unknown goals.
